Green Shields, Red Shields, Gray Shields

Green and Red Shields

What if you want to take a break from war?

Perhaps you are upgrading your spell factory.  Perhaps you want to devote your elixir to an upcoming upgrade instead of war troops?  Perhaps you have a busy weekend?  There are many reasons to skip a war.

To do so politely, opt out by changing your status from green to red.

First, look at your profile.  Notice your "clan wars" button is green.

When you click on this button, you have the choice to opt out of clan wars.

This changes the button to red.

When you look at our list of clan members, on the far left edge of the screen we have either green shields or red shields to show whether we are opted in or out of war.

Our clan leaders know that looking at who has opted out of war is not perfectly reliable.  (For example, we currently have one clan member who dropped and broke her iPhone: she cannot play the game, but is unable to pick being opted out.)  But it does help us know more-or-less who wants to be in the next war.  Clear communication helps make a happy clan!

Gray Shields

Sometimes you see gray shields.  What are those?

Here is our list of clan members on one day in September 2015.  It shows on the far left edge of the screen either green shields or red shields to show who is opted in or out of war.

But there are also gray shields!

Only new clan members can have gray shields.  It means they left their old clan during one of that other clan's wars.

Those new clan members are unable to participate in a different war until that old war ends.  (If they returned to their old clan, they would be able to resume participation in the war to which they had committed.)
